DIVING THE MANTA COAST!!

WHO – Barra Reef Divers home of the Adventure Dive Challenge, (www.divestyle.co.za) is a well known and established Dive Charter/Training facility. It is owned by an experienced Instructor Trainer and Skipper, Russel Walster. In support, three more instructors and two local skippers are also keeping the “International Standard flag” flying high!

WHERE – Barra Reef Divers is situated on the main Barra beach near the town of Inhambane 500km north of Maputo. Our Main Dive Center is situated inside Barra Reef Resort and we also exclusively service a number of other Resorts in the area. BUT true to our motto, ALL is welcome!

WHEN – Although there are plenty of good times throughout the year to visit Barra, the best time is…. “There are no BAD TIMES!! (Just remember, “Mother Nature” seems to be a WOMAN!!) The” hotter” months (not for sensitive “viewers”!) gradually start from after the winter to the end of February. Our winter time is not like anything you are use to, we have ‘bikini’ warm days with a bit of a “long sleeve-chilly” towards the late afternoon, evenings and of course early mornings.

WHY – On top of good ‘weather reasons’ there are also many other reasons why any visit at any time to Barra is a must! Manta Rays and Whale Sharks pretty much all year round with the added bonus of Humpback Whales during the months of June to October. We have more than 14 World class Reefs to choose from including Manta Reef that ranges from 10 to 30 meters and beyond. We are also lucky to be situated in a bay and have very protected launching conditions. To add to our Reefs we also have a lagoon which for the connoisseur is a bottomless pit of alien creatures with Sea Horses added to the mix. Last but not the least your chance of seeing dolphins going out to a dive or Whale Shark Safari is almost 80%!

With all this info the non-diver should not feel neglected as an array of other water based activities from snorkeling on a 3 to 4m reef, sundowner cruises to Whale Shark Safaris awaits them. To add more “bubble blowers” to the Dive community we also offer internationally recognized Scuba Courses with PADI, SDI and CMAS. If not a full course, we also offer the “Try Scuba” and “Resort Course” experience to the non-diver.

HOW – Currently in operation we have 3 dive boats (6.3, 7.5 & 9m) with the possibility to charter more if need be. Our Bauer compressor is well looked after and we also have sufficient air banks to easily supply air as needed. Currently we don’t offer any Nitrox fills. We also have Aqualung Dive Gear for hire with a big range of brands in wetsuits and fins. Our gear hire is charged per day and we offer a free cylinder and weight belt to fly-in clients.
